The 2023 edition of the Wedge-Tailed Eagle was struck by the Perth Mint from 2 ounces of 99.99% pure silver in proof quality and appears this year with a 24-carat gold plated motive. It is the eighth design by the famous US Mint engraver John M. Mercanti. The motive of the High Relief silver coin depicts a wedge-tailed eagle - Australia's largest bird of prey - perched on a branch with wings outstretched. The design is framed by the inscriptions "AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE" and "2023 2oz 9999 SILVER". The traditional mintmark "P" of the Perth Mint is also included in the design. In addition to the motive, the outer edge of the coin has also been gilded, thus giving this coin a very unique look. The reverse shows the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II as well as the dates of her reign and the denomination. The Wedge-Tailed eagle is one of the biggest eagles in the world. Its wings measure a wingspan of up to 2.7 meters. The impressive animal is mostly native to Australia, Tasmania and southern Papua New Guinea and feeds mainly on reptiles and small mammals. The gilded Wedge-Tailed Eagle 2 oz silver coin in high relief is delivered in the original box including a numbered certificate of authenticity from the Perth Mint.
