This silver coin is dedicated to the Year of the Horse 2026, the seventh animal in the Chinese zodiac calendar. According to an ancient Chinese legend, the Emperor organized a great race among all the animals of the earth to determine the twelve positions of the lunar calendar. Each animal had to cross a raging river. The horse nearly finished in sixth place, but just before the finish line, the cunning snake leapt from its hiding place, startled the horse, and crossed ahead of it. Thus, the horse takes the seventh position in the zodiac.

The seventh release of the 12-year Lunar III Series features a highly detailed depiction of a majestic mare together with her young foal. Both are shown in a dynamic galloping pose with elegantly flowing manes. In the background, imposing mountain ranges rise in harmonious contrast to the serene expanse of grasslands. The intricate design also includes the Chinese character for “Horse”, the inscription “HORSE 2026”, and The Perth Mint’s traditional “P” mintmark. The reverse of the coin portrays the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, along with inscriptions of the weight, fineness, and denomination.
