The silver coin is dedicated to the year of the snake 2025 and thus to the sixth animal in the Chinese zodiac calendar. According to Chinese tradition, the emperor ordered a great race between all the animals of the earth to determine the 12 positions in the lunar calendar. To complete the course, each animal had to cross a raging river. The snake reached sixth place by unsettling the horse and cleverly smuggling itself past.
The obverse of the coin presents a coiled snake on the ground, surrounded by drooping leaves. The design includes the Chinese character for “snake”, the inscription “SNAKE 2025” and the Perth Mint's “P” mintmark. The reverse of the coin features a portrait of King Charles III designed by Dan Thorne. Also on this side are the coin's weight, fineness and face value.
The zodiac sign of the snake is said to have particularly strong intuition, wisdom, intelligence and good powers of observation. People born in the year of the snake are considered cultured, sensitive and philosophical as well as artistically inclined. The limited edition 1 oz silver Year of the Snake coin in proof quality comes in its original case and includes a numbered certificate of authenticity.
