The ninth issue of the Australian Lunar Opal Series is dedicated in 2024 to the Year of the Dragon. Following the rabbit, the dragon is the fifth of 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac calendar. Struck by the Perth Mint from 1 Oz of 99.99% pure silver in proof quality, it incorporates an inner panel design of a dragon detailed in pure Australian opal. The outer panel includes intricate patterning with depictions of stylized hyacinths. The inscription "YEAR OF THE DRAGON" and the mintmark "P125" signifying The Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary. The reverse shows the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, supplemented with the dates of her reign, the denomination and fineness.
