The sixth issue of the new Lunar Series was struck by the Royal Australian Mint from one kilo of 99.9% silver and is dedicated to the Year of the Snake. Following the tiger, the ox, the rat, the rabbit, and the dragon, the snake is the sixth animal in the Chinese zodiac calendar. The motive features a snake surrounded by bamboo, its body skillfully coiled around the bamboo stalks. The inscriptions “YEAR OF THE SNAKE”, the Chinese character for “snake” and the weight and fineness are also engraved. The reverse shows the lunar calendar wheel with all 12 animals as well as the Dan Thorne portrait of King Charles III, the denomination and the year of issue in the center.

The zodiac sign of the snake is said to have particularly strong intuition, wisdom, intelligence and good powers of observation. People born in the year of the snake are considered to be cultured, sensitive, philosophical and artistically inclined. The strictly limited Year of the Snake 1 kilo silver proof coin is delivered in the original wooden box of the Royal Australian Mint including a numbered certificate of authenticity.
