This unique dome shaped coin is the fourth issue in the new Lunar Series by the Royal Australian Mint and was struck from one ounce of 99,9% silver. The silver coin is dedicated to the Year of the Rabbit in 2023 and is limited to only 7,500 pieces worldwide. The motive features a rabbit surrounded by plantain lilies. The plants are symbolic for joy, harmony and innocence and emphasize the qualities associated with the rabbit. In addition, the inscription "YEAR OF THE RABBIT", the Chinese character for "rabbit" and the weight and fineness are engraved. The reverse shows the Jody Clark portrait of Queen Elizabeth II as well as the denomination and the year of issue.
The Rabbit is the fourth of twelve signs in the Chinese Zodiac calendar, following the Year of the Tiger in 2022. According to the legend, the moon goddess Chang'e has a rabbit as a pet, which has always been a symbol of cheerfulness and happiness. It is also believed that the rabbit is the incarnation of the Moon Goddess herself.
