The fifth issue of the new Lunar Series was struck by the Royal Australian Mint from one kilo of 99.9% silver and is dedicated to the Year of the Dragon. Following the tiger, the ox, the rat and the rabbit, the dragon is the fifth animal in the Chinese zodiac calendar. The motive features a dragon surrounded by auspicious clouds, the symbol of luck and good fortune. In addition, the inscription "YEAR OF THE DRAGON", the Chinese character for "dragon" and the weight and fineness are engraved. The reverse features the lunar calendar wheel, with all 12 animals on the wheel, the Jody Clark portrait of Queen Elizabeth II as well as the denomination and the year of issue.

The Dragon is attributed with qualities such as reliability, self-confidence, courage and a strong willpower. Those born under the sign of the Dragon are considered energetic, enthusiastic, and intelligent. Dragons are charismatic, attract others with their magnetic personality, and are often considered natural leaders.
