This locked coin from the Series Treasures of Australia was struck by the Perth Mint from one ounce of 99.9% silver in proof quality and contains a genuine Australian Keshi-Pearl. The motive depicts an abstract and stilized representation of Australia's marine environment. In addition the design incorporates a mother of pearl half-circle locket containing the natural Australian Keshi-Pearl. The reverse shows the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II as well as the denomination, the fineness and the year of issue. The Australian marine environment is said to be one of the world's richest source of South Sea pearls. These pearls are formed by Oysters depositing layers of nacre over an intruder. Pearls have always been a symbol of purity and femininity. For centuries pearls have been considered the oldest and most famous gem in the world. The unique Locked Coin with Keshi-Pearl is delivered in the original box including a numbered certificate of authenticity from the Perth Mint.
