The coin was struck in honour of the 250th Anniversary of the Endeavour's arrival in Australia in 1770. The motive shows a representation of the research vessel "Endeavour" in front of the outline of the Australian east coast. In the background are pictures of different plant species. Below the design is the plant "Banksia", named after Joseph Banks. The inscription "ENDEAVOUR 1770-2020", the representation of a compass and the traditional mintmark "P" of the Perth Mint are also part of the design. The reverse features the Jody Clark effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as well as the denomination and the year of issue. The "Endeavour" was a research ship of the British Royal Navy, which set off on its first voyage of discovery in 1768 under the command of James Cook. On 29 April 1770, Captain Cook's crew first went ashore south of what is now Sydney. The naturalist Joseph Banks took so many previously unknown botanical specimens at this site that Cook called the area "Botany Bay". The limited silver coin "Endeavour" in proof quality is delivered in the original box including a numbered certificate of authenticity from the Perth Mint.
