The Ouroboros coin was struck by the Perth Mint from 2 ounces of 99.99% pure silver in the shape of the infinity sign. The motive in color features a snake consuming its own tail. The effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the denomination, the weight, the fineness and the year of issue are shown on the coin’s obverse. Each coin has been individually ‘antiqued’. As a result of this treatment, the appearance of each coin may vary. The ancient symbol of the Ouroboros appears in a variety of ancient cultures and beliefs and represents the regenerative cycle of life, enlightenment and renewal. The horizontal eight-shaped symbol was first used mathematically in the 17th century to represent the concept of the infinite and unlimited. The Ouroboros combines ancient mythical and mathematical connotations and is considered a symbol of infinity. The Antique Finish silver coin is presented in a clear acrylic case, allowing both sides of the coin to be displayed.
