This "Black and Gold" silver coin of the Royal Canadian Mint is dedicated to the Sea Otter. The coin was struck from one ounce of 99.99% pure silver and plated with yellow gold and rhodium. The motive features a high-contrast depiction of two sea otters, which with the help of the different color scheme depict the yin-and-yang symbol ("Taijitu"). The symbol traditionally stands for the idea that everything has an opposite and thus only the wholeness can arise, which is in perfect balance. The sea otter is a perfect example of balance in nature: the lovable animals work hard, but also takes time to float arm in arm with their beloved partners in the water. The reverse, which has also been yellow gold plated, features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II as well as the denomination and year of issue. The Black and Gold - Sea Otter Coin is limited to only 6,500 pieces worldwide and is delivered in the original box including a certificate of authenticity.
