The motive features the silhouette of the journalist, which captures Kathleen Coleman's most important milestones. The collage features a ship, symbolic of her journey to Canada, her office at the Toronto Mail, and a typewriter. Also included are the issuing state "CANADA" and the year of issue "2023". The reverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II and the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II" and "D.G. REGINA". Struck from 99.99% pure silver the commemorative coin is limited to 35,000 pieces worldwide.
Born on the 20th of February in 1865 in Castleblakeney, Ireland, Kathleen Blake Coleman is now one of Canada's "Persons of National Historic Significance". With her journalistic career, she paved the way not only for better female representation in newsrooms, but also for a more equal standing for Canadian women in other areas of life. In 1915, the journalist died of pneumonia in Hamilton, Canada. The silver proof coin is delivered in the original box including a certificate of authenticity from the Royal Canadian Mint.
