The Monnaie de Paris dedicated this silver coin to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of France in World War II and in memory of the Franco-British friendship. Struck from 22.2 grams of silver, the motive of the coin features two very important decision makers of the liberation at that time. The profiles of former two-time British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and French general and Statesman Charles de Gaulle are depicted. Also included are the national flags of both France and England in color, as well as the inscriptions "C. DE GAULLE", "W. CHURCHILL" and the annual number "80 ANS". The reverse of the silver coin features the outlines of England and France, as well as the Cross of Lorraine, the inscription "1941-2021 ANNIVERSAIRE DE LA FRANCE LIBRE" and the denomination "10 EURO". The former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill played an important role in the French resistance. He assisted General de Gaulle in securing his legitimacy and enabling the Allies to recognize Free France. In recognition of his support, Charles de Gaulle presented Churchill with the Cross of Liberation in 1958.
