The silver coin from France was issued on the occasion of the 9th World Athletics Championship, which was held under the auspices of the International Association of Athletics Federations from August 23rd to 31st, 2003 at the Stade de France in Paris. The motive features the discipline "Throwing" and shows an athlete throwing a shot put as well as the inscription "LANCER" (engl.: to throw). The reverse shows several landmarks of Paris as well as the denomination and the inscription "RÉPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE". The World Athletics Championships logo and the motto "Liberté - Égalité - Fraternité" complete the design. The limited commemorative coin "World Championships in Athletics 2003 - Throwing" is delivered in the original box including a certificate of authenticity.
