With the Series Characters of French Literature, the Monnaie de Paris celebrates famous figures of French literary history. The silver coin in proof quality is dedicated to D'Artagnan, one of the most symbolic musketeers under King Louis XIII. The motive depicts D'Artagnan in his typical costume. In the background are the three musketeers proclaiming their famous motto "Un pour tous, tous pour un". Between D'Artagnan and the three musketeers is a cross of lily pads. The reverse features a portrait of Alexandre Dumas and the quote from the novel, "Le jeune Mousquetaire était en excellente disposition pour trépasser héroïquement". The denomination and year of issue are also part of the design.
