With the Series Characters of French Literature, the Monnaie de Paris celebrates famous figures of French literary history. The silver coin in proof quality appears within the Euro Star Series and is dedicated to one of the great works of world literature, Madame Bovary. The motive depicts the protagonists of the social novel published in 1857, which took almost five years to complete. The inscription "Madame Bovary" is located in the upper half of the coin. The reverse shows a portrait of the author Gustave Flaubert and a quote from the novel, "UN INFINI DE PASSIONS PEUT TENIR DANS UNE MINUTE". The denomination and year of issue are also part of the design.
