With the Series Characters of French Literature, the Monnaie de Paris celebrates famous figures of French literary history. The silver coin in proof quality is dedicated to Eugène de Rastignac, one of the central characters in the novel cycle "La Comédie humaine" by the French writer Honoré de Balzac (1799-1850). The motive depicts the famous scene from the novel in which Rastignac stands on a hill in the Père-Lachaise cemetery, looks out over Paris from there and challenges society to a duel. In this scene, he utters his famous proclamation "À nous deux, maintenant!" (Eng.: It is now between you and me!). The same statement, along with a portrait of Balzac, is also on the reverse of the coin. The denomination and year of issue are also included in the design. The limited commemorative silver coin Characters of French Literature - Rastignac is delivered in the original box including a certificate of authenticity.
