The Monnaie de Paris dedicates the series "Masterpieces of Museums" to the great works of art that are exhibited or have been created in France. This rectangular commemorative coin in color is issued in honour of the Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh and his famous work "Self-Portrait". The self-portrait, created in September 1889, may be the last painting of its kind created by Van Gogh. It was painted at the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole sanatorium in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, where he had admitted himself to hospital due to psychological problems. On the colored motive, the turquoise background and Van Gogh's jacket contrast with the fiery orange of his hair. Below the portrait is a plaque with the inscription "VINCENT VAN GOGH 2020". The reverse features different views of French museums as well as the inscription "RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" and the denomination "250 EURO". The limited commemorative 1/2 kilo silver coin will be delivered in the original box including a certificate of authenticity.
