The Monnaie de Paris dedicates the series "Masterpieces of Museums" to the great works of art that are exhibited or have been created in France. This rectangular commemorative coin struck from 100 gram of silver is issued in honor of the Dutch Baroque artist Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675) and his work "Girl with a Pearl Earring". The world-famous painting was created from 1665-1667 and has not lost its special magic to this day. In particular, the identity of the depicted girl and the pearl earring, which seems to float, have always puzzled the viewer. The motive of the 50 Euro silver coin shows an image of the painting as well as the inscriptions "LA JEUNE FILLE À LA PERLE - J. VERMEER", "CHEFS D'ŒUVRE DES MUSÉES" and the year of issue 2021. The facade of the Jeu de Paume museum in Paris, where the work was first exhibited outside the Netherlands in 1921, is engraved on the lower edge. The reverse of the coin features different views of French museums as well as the inscription "RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" and the monetary denomination "50 EURO". The limited commemorative silver coin is delivered in the original box including a certificate of authenticity.
