The silver coin is dedicated to the former Benedictine abbey Corvey, which celebrates its 1,200th anniversary in 2022. The coin was designed by artist Bastian Prillwitz and features the different facets of the monastery through the cavalier perspective. The so-called "Westwerk" with its two facade towers is depicted in the foreground. The inscription "1200 JAHRE KLOSTER CORVEY" is also included in the design. The edge of the coin contains the inscription "WO DER HIMMEL DIE ERDE BERUEHRT". The reverse shows the federal eagle, the words "Bundesrepublik Deutschland", the denomination and currency, the mintmark "F" of the Stuttgart mint, the year 2022 and the twelve stars of Europe.
The former independent Benedictine abbey is located in the present-day city of Höxter in North Rhine-Westphalia and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2014. The monastery is one of the oldest and almost completely preserved Carolingian westworks in the world. In addition to the unique archaeological relics from the Carolingian period, the monastery also has one of the most valuable libraries in the country. The 20 euro commemorative coin "1,200 Years of Corvey Abbey" in proof quality is delivered in a blistercard.
