This commemorative coin is dedicated to the 150th birthday of the German writer Gerhart Hauptmann (1862-1946). Designed by the artist Jurdi Truxa, the motive of the coin features the profile of Gerhart Hauptmann next to a quill and a large sheet of paper. The inscription "150. GEBURTSTAG GERHART HAUPTMANN" surrounds the design. The reverse of the coin features the Federal eagle, the lettering "Bundesrepublik Deutschland", the year 2012, the denomination and the fineness as well as the mint mark 'J' and twelve European stars. The flat edge of the coin contains the inscription "A JEDER MENSCH HAT HALT 'NE SEHNSUCHT". The proof silver coin is delivered in a protective coin capsule.
