This commemorative coin is dedicated to the 200th birthday of the important literary figure of the 19th century - Georg Büchner (1813-1837). Designed by coin designer Eugen Ruhl, the motive features a portrait of Georg Büchner. Surrounding the design are the inscriptions "200 GEBURTSTAG GEORG BÜCHNER", "FRIEDE DEN HÜTTEN" und "KRIEG DEN PALÄSTEN". The reverse depicts the federal eagle, the lettering "Bundesrepublik Deutschland", the denomination, the mintmark "F" of the Stuttgart mint, the year 2013 and the twelve European stars. The edge of the coin contains a quote from Büchner's comedy "Leonce and Lena": "ICH BIN SO JUNG UND DIE WELT IST SO ALT".
