The motive features a portrait of Bertolt Brecht in the style of a graphic novel drawing. The design is framed by the inscription "125. GEBURTSTAG VON BERTOLT BRECHT" and the quote "ÄNDERE DIE WELT SIE BRAUCHT ES". The reverse shows the federal eagle, the inscription "BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND", the denomination, the year of issue, the twelve stars of Europe and the mintmark "J" of the mint Hamburg. The edge of the coin contains the inscription in engraved detail: "DAS SCHICKSAL DES MENSCHEN IST DER MENSCH".
Born in Augsburg in 1898 as Eugen Berthold Friedrich Brecht, Bertolt Brecht (1898-1956) was one of the most important German-language playwrights, librettists and lyricists of the 20th century. He founded the epic theater and is known worldwide, among other things, for his works "The Threepenny Opera", "Mother Courage and Her Children" and the work critical of capitalism "Saint Joan of the Stockyards".
