The 2025 Kiwi coin was minted by New Zealand Post from 2 ounces of 99.9% silver in black proof quality. The coin, designed by Sacha Lees in collaboration with Te Rūnanga O Makaawhio, is characterized by a gilded silver surface and detailed engravings. It features a kiwi couple guarding their egg. The design also includes the inscription “ROWI I OKARITO BROWN KIWI Apteryx rowi” and the denomination. The reverse features the gilded portrait of King Charles III with the inscriptions "NEW ZEALAND", ".999 Ag 2oz", "CHARLES III" and "2025".

A remarkable characteristic of kiwi birds is that the male and female parent take turns caring for the chicks. The chicks often remain in their family group for years. These birds are slow to reproduce and typically lay only one egg per year. The Kiwi 2 Oz high relief black proof silver coin with selective gold plating is limited to 250 pieces worldwide. The coin is delivered in the original box including a numbered certificate of the New Zealand Post.
