Struck by the New Zealand Post from 5 ounces of 99.9% silver in proof quality, this gilded Kiwi coin features a depiction of a brown kiwi (Apteryx mantelli) sitting in a burrow with two eggs. The design also includes the inscription "BROWN KIWI - APTERYX MANTELLI" as well as the denomination. The reverse shows the gilded portrait of Queen Elizabeth II with the inscriptions "NEW ZEALAND", ".999 Ag 5oz", "ELIZABETH II" and "2021". The Brown Kiwi is also known as "Northern Kiwi" or "Northern Striped Kiwi". It lives in isolated populations on New Zealand's North Island. The plumage of the flightless bird is typically dark brown with a reddish pattern. The brown kiwi is the only species that regularly lays two eggs in a clutch. The Kiwi 5 Oz silver coin with selective gold plating is limited to 350 pieces worldwide.
