The third issue of the 101 Dalmatians series is dedicated to the antagonist Cruella De Vil from Disney's 1961 animated film "101 Dalmatians". Struck by the New Zealand Mint from one ounce of 99.9% silver in proof quality, the motive in color features the eccentric and fashion-obsessed heiress Cruella chasing after the puppies in her car. The reverse features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II as well as the denomination and year of issue.

The Disney™ animated film 101 Dalmatians was released in 1961 and is based on a novel by English author Dodie Smith published five years earlier. The film begins with Pongo, a male Dalmatian, setting his master Roger up with Anita, who owns a female Dalmatian named Perdi. Both the dogs and the dog's owners fall in love, and soon after, Pongo and Perdi have offspring. When Cruella De Vil, a former acquaintance of Anita, shows up and kidnaps the puppies, an adventurous rescue of the dogs begins. Cruella intends to make a coat of Dalmatian fur - a fate from which the dog parents can save not only their own 15 puppies, but a total of 99 young dalmatians.
