The Disney™ silver coin in color is dedicated to Maleficent™, the antagonist from the Disney™ film Sleeping Beauty™. The coin was struck by the New Zealand Mint from one ounce of 99.9% silver in proof quality, features an image of Maleficent™ and has been decorated with a purple gemstone. The reverse shows the weight, purity, copyright, denomination and year of issue. In addition, the coat of arms of the New Zealand Mint is depicted, together with the inscription "Elixir of Dreamless Sleep". The edge of the coin is decorated with thorny vines.

Maleficent™ is one of the most famous antagonists from the fairy tale known as “Sleeping Beauty” in the version by the Brothers Grimm. In the classic tale by Charles Perrault and the later adaptation by the Brothers Grimm, Maleficent is described as an evil fairy with magical powers. She is deeply hurt because she was not invited to the christening of the newborn Princess Aurora. In revenge, she curses the child: On her 16th birthday, Aurora is to prick herself on a spindle and fall into a deep sleep, from which she can only be awakened by true love's kiss. Her appearance is imposing and terrifying, with a long black robe and a characteristic headdress reminiscent of devil horns.
