The series "Harry Potter™ - Magical Creatures" from the New Zealand Mint is dedicated to the magnificent creatures from the magical world of Harry Potter™. The rectangular coin was struck from one ounce of 99.9% silver in proof quality and is dedicated to the Dementor. The appearance of the malicious magical creature corresponds to its appearance in the Harry Potter books. The background is kept in dark shades and further emphasizes the gloomy atmosphere emanating from the Dementor. In addition, three black zirconia stones have been incorporated into the upper part of the coin. The reverse features the coat of arms of Niue as well as the year of issue “2025” and the denomination “TWO DOLLARS”.

Dementors are used to guard the wizard prison Azkaban and are extremely feared within the magical community. The approach of these creatures, which are completely concealed by cloaks and hoods, is heralded not by noises, but by cold, clammy air. The direct proximity of a dementor drains both magicians and non-magicians of all happy memories and plunges every victim into an agonizing, depressive state.
