The series "Harry Potter™ - Magical Creatures" from the New Zealand Mint is dedicated to the magnificent creatures from the magical world of Harry Potter™. The rectangular coin was struck from one ounce of 99.9% silver in proof quality and features a depiction of the Hungarian Horntail™, considered to be the most dangerous breed of dragon. The background is symbolic of the dragon in shades of yellow. Three yellow zirconia stones are set above the majestic creature. The reverse features the effigy of King Charles III as well as the year of issue “2024” and the denomination "TWO DOLLARS".

In "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire", the Hungarian Horntail™ is the first opponent Harry™ encounters in the Triwizard Tournament. His task is to steal the egg that the female dragon is guarding. This dragon looks like a huge black lizard with yellow slit eyes and bronze-colored horns. Particularly characteristic is the dragon's eponymous tail, which is tipped with long, hard, bronze-colored spikes. Like the 15-meter-wide flames, it mainly uses its tail to hunt humans and then devour them. The rectangular silver coin is delivered in the original box of the New Zealand Mint including a numbered certificate of authenticity.
