This Lord of the Rings™ silver coin in antique finish was issued by the New Zealand Mint to honor J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy trilogy. The motive features a close-up of the Black Gate, also known as Morannon, as well as the Tower of the Teeth in Mordor. The gate is one of the few direct entrances into the dark realm of the necromancer Sauron™. The copyright as well as the weight and fineness are also included in the design. The reverse depicts the Public Seal of Niue, the year of issue "2023" and the denomination "TWO DOLLARS".

Mordor is a volcanic plain in the south-east of Middle Earth, lying to the east of Gondor, Ithilien and the great river Anduin. The area was chosen by Sauron™ as his kingdom due to the fact that it was surrounded on three sides by mountain ranges that formed a natural fortress against his enemies.
