The fourth issue of the new The Lord of the Rings™ Classic Series is dedicated to Aragorn™. The coin was struck by the New Zealand Mint from one ounce of 99.9% silver in proof quality. The design features a colorful depiction of the heir of Isildur in an expectant posture. He wears his typical ranger's rob as well as the elven cloak given to him by Galadriel. In his hand he holds the powerful sword Andúril, which was forged from the fragments of Nasil, Elendil's sword. The reverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the denomination and the year of issue. Aragorn II is heir to the throne of Gondor, later High King of Arnor and Gondor, and belonged to the Dúnedain. As part of the Fellowship of the Ring surrounding Frodo Baggins™, he tried to do everything in his power to bring the One Ring to Mordor and destroy it in the fiery depths of Mount Doom. The dangerous journey, however, send the fellowship in different directions. Aragorn, the Dwarf Gimli™ and the Elf Legolas™ made it their mission to free the captured hobbits Merry and Pippin. An unusual friendship between human, elf and dwarf developed on the journey that lasted until their deaths.
