The seventh issue of the new The Lord of the Rings™ Classic Series is dedicated to Gimli™. The coin was struck by the New Zealand Mint from one ounce of 99.9% silver in proof quality. The design features a colorful depiction of the dwarf in full armor with helmet and weapon in hand. The reverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the denomination and the year of issue. As the son of Glóin of the race of Durin, Gimli the Dwarf was sent with his father as a messenger to the council of Lord Elrond. As part of the Fellowship of the Ring around the Ringbearer Frodo Baggins™, he was the only representative of the people of the Dwarves. The dangerous journey, however, send the fellowship in different directions. Aragorn™, Gimli and the Elf Legolas™ made it their mission to free the captured hobbits Merry and Pippin. An unusual friendship between human, elf and dwarf developed on the journey that lasted until their deaths.
