The third issue in the STAR TREK™ - Starfleet Divisions series from the New Zealand Mint is dedicated to the Operations Insignia. Struck from one ounce of 99.9% silver in proof quality, the copper-plated coin features the asymmetrical, arrow-shaped, bronze-coloured emblem with the stylized “e”, which initially stood for “engineering” and later for the “operations” division. The coin was partially given a frosted finish. The reverse shows the coat of arms of Niue, the year of issue “2024”, the denomination “TWO DOLLARS”, the weight, the fineness and the copyright.

The Operations Insignia is a symbol for the operational area of the Starfleet, which includes officers and crew members who were mainly specialized in the positions of security, engineering and operations. At times, departments such as communications, control and navigation were also assigned to the Operations Division. Members of this division can be found in service roles on starbases, aboard starships and in Starfleet Command as staff officers.
