The first release in the new STAR WARS™ Carbonite Bar Series was struck by the New Zealand Mint from three ounces of 99.9% silver and features Han Solo™ frozen in carbonite. The famous scene comes from the 1997 film "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back". The coin in antique finish is shaped like an ingot to show the full length version of the frozen Han. The reverse of the carbonite bar presents the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, as well as the weight, fineness and official copyright.
Han Solo™ was a Corellian and the owner of the famous Millennium Falcon™, which he won in a gamble against Lando Calrissian™. With his friend and co-pilot Chewbacca™, he joined the Rebel Alliance to restore the Republic. The often sarcastic Han was involved in illegal activities from a young age and possessed a casual yet daring nature. He was frozen in carbonite 3 NSY in the presence of Darth Vader™ in Cloud City on Bespin. After being handed over to bounty hunter Boba Fett™, Solo was displayed as a decoration on the wall of Jabba's palace on the desert planet of Tatooine. Disguised as a bounty hunter, his future wife Leia Organa™ was able to free the rebel from the carbonite. The limited STAR WARS™ Carbonite Bar - Han Solo™ silver coin is delivered in the original box of the New Zealand Mint including a certificate of authenticity.
