The officially licensed STAR WARS™ silver coin is dedicated to the Death Star™ DS-2. Struck from 3 ounces of 99.9% silver in proof quality, the coin replicates the still-incomplete Second Death Star™ under construction. The weight, fineness and copyright have been engraved along the bottom edge of the coin. The reverse shows the Niue Coat of Arms as well as the denomination and the year of issue.

After the first Death Star™ had been destroyed by Luke Skywalker™, the Empire began construction of a second, even more dangerous Death Star™ in "Return of the Jedi™", which was located near the forest moon of Endor and protected from attack by a shield. Like its predecessor, Death Star™ DS-2 served as a potential planet destroyer for the purpose of deterrence and absolute demonstration of the Empire's power. By destroying the second Death Star's protective shield generator and main reactor, the Rebel Alliance succeeded in the Battle of Endor in destroying the second mobile battle station as well, thus laying the foundation for the emergence of the new Republic.
