The rectangular coin from the New Zealand Mint was struck from 3 ounces of 99.9% silver and is dedicated to the third film in the legendary Star Wars™ saga. The motive has been provided with color and shows depictions of Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader as well as Star Destroyers, TIE Fighters and the second Death Star. The “STAR WARS - RETURN OF THE JEDI” logo is also included in the design. The reverse shows the coat of arms of Niue as well as the denomination, the year of issue, the weight, the fineness and the copyright. In addition, the so-called “opening crawl” - the text that runs across the screen at the beginning of the movie - has been engraved.

Return of the Jedi™ is the sixth episode of the STAR WARS™ saga by George Lucas and follows on from the storyline of “The Empire Strikes Back™”. The production deals with the threat posed by the second Death Star, the construction of which is intended to destroy the rebels. The alliance around Han Solo™, Luke Skywalker™ and Leia Organa™ once again goes into battle against the Empire, succeeds in destroying the mighty Death Star and finally celebrates liberation from the Empire's rule. The limited Star Wars™ 3 oz silver coin in color is delivered in the original box including a numbered certificate of authenticity.
