This silver coin in antique finish is dedicated to the Greek hero Hercules and is the first release in the new coin series Heroes of Greek Mythology. The motive depicts Hercules fighting with the Hydra, a snake-like water monster with nine heads. Also included in the design is the inscription "HERCULES" as well as the fineness and weight of the coin. The reverse features the official coat of arms of Niue, the denomination "TWO DOLLARS" and the year of issue "2023".
Hercules, also known as Heracles, is still considered the greatest hero of all Greek heroes and is one of the most famous figures in Greek mythology. He was particularly known for his extraordinary strength, courage and intelligence. Hercules owed his superhuman strength and abilities to his divine lineage; he was the son of Zeus, the king of the gods, and Alcmene, a mortal woman. Among the most famous stories of Hercules are "The Twelve Labors of Hercules", twelve seemingly impossible deeds that were assigned to him by King Eurystheus. Among them were the capture of the Erymanthian boar, the cleaning of the Augean stables, the picking of the golden apples of the Hesperides, as well as the killing of the nine-headed Hydra. After his death, Hercules was accepted into the ranks of the gods and officially given the title of a Greek hero.
The limited Hercules silver coin in antique finish is delivered in the original box inlcuding a certificate of authenticity.
