The third issue of the series Heavenly Archangels from the New Zealand Mint is dedicated to the Archangel Raphael. The motive of the rectangular coin in color shows a depiction of the Archangel as seen on a glass window in Hull Minster, Great Britain. The image dates from 1920 and was created by Mary Hutchinson. Raphael is considered to be the Archangel of healing and therefore also the patron saint of the sick and the pharmacists. On pilgrimages, on which he accompanied Tobias, he not only healed wounds, but also enabled healing relationships. Because of these journeys, he is often depicted in art history with a pilgrim's staff, which is also included in the design of the coin. The reverse features the Ian Rank Broadley portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the year of issue and the denomination. The limited coin struck from one ounce of 99.9% silver in proof quality is delivered in the original box including a certificate of authenticity from the New Zealand Mint.
