This strictly limited set includes the first issue of the new Big Five III Series - Elephant from the South African Mint and a rare special edition of the 2024 Krugerrand with a Privy Mark "Elephant". South Africa is justifiably proud of its extraordinary wildlife. The animals known as "Big Five" - Elephant - Lion - Buffalo - Rhino - Leopard - are landmarks and ambassadors of this culturally rich country and represent the African fauna.

The Big Five silver coin features a full-body depiction of a full-grown elephant. The reverse depicts two halves of an elephant head. When two of the coins are placed next to each other, a complete close-up portrait of an elephant is visible. By placing many of these coins next to each other, a whole herd of elephants appears. In the center, the denomination "FIVE RAND", the weight "1OZ" and the fineness "Ag 999" are shown. A special feature is the filigree engraving of a yellow-billed oxpecker (Buphagus africanus), which points to the importance of an integrated ecology and is found throughout sub-Saharan Africa.

The African elephant (Loxodonta africana) is probably the largest and most impressive representative of the African animal kingdom and is generally regarded as a symbol of power and strength. The “gentle giant” is characterized by its excellent memory and very pronounced social behaviour. In the wild, the elephant can live up to 60 years - but the threat from poachers remains high to this day.

The second coin in this set features the classic Krugerrand design and a Privy Mark with an elephant. Like all Krugerrand coins the reverse shows the portrait of South Africas first President Paul Kruger. This exclusive special edition is limited to only 1,000 sets worldwide and is delivered in the original wooden box including a numbered certificate of authenticity from the South African Mint.
