With the release of the Big Five III Series, the South African Mint continues the success story of a coveted classic. Once again, the Series includes a total of five coins, all dedicated to South Africa's impressive wildlife. The animals known as the "Big Five" - Elephant - Lion - Buffalo - Rhino - Leopard - are considered emblems and ambassadors of this culturally rich country and represent the African fauna.

The fourth issue is dedicated to the Leopard and published as a Double Capsule Set. This unique set contains twice the fourth release in the Big Five III Series, each struck from one ounce of 99.9% silver in proof quality. The motive of both coins features a full-body depiction of an adult leopard standing on a rock in an alert posture. The inscriptions “SOUTH AFRICA”, “BIG FIVE 2026” and the South African coat of arms are also part of the design. The reverse shows two halves of a leopard's head. Placing two of these coins next to each other gives a full close-up portrait of a leopard. When several of these coins are placed next to each other, an entire pack of leopards appears. In the center are the denomination “FIVE RAND”, the weight “1OZ” and the fineness “Ag 999”. A special highlight is the delicate engraving of an African fruit chafer (Pachnoda sinuata). This beetle is found throughout South Africa and draws attention to the importance of an integrated ecology. It feeds on flowers and fruits, while many insect-eating bird species prey on the larvae of the garden fruit chafer.

The leopard (Panthera pardus) ranks among the most graceful and powerful big cats in the world, alongside the lion, tiger, and jaguar. With its lithe appearance, distinctive coat pattern, and impressive muscular strength, it embodies both elegance and power. As an exceptionally adaptable survivor, the leopard inhabits a wide range of environments. It is equally at home in the dense forests of Africa as well as in mountainous regions, vast savannas, and arid semi-desert landscapes. Thanks to its intelligent hunting techniques, it is considered one of the most successful predators among the big cats. The limited Big Five III Leopard Set is delivered in a double coin capsule and a noble wooden box. The wooden tray with the two coins can be removed and turned around, so that it is possible to present both sides of the coin. Also included is a numbered certificate of authenticity from the South African Mint.
