To mark the 25th anniversary of SpongeBob SquarePants™, the Perth Mint has issued this silver coin in color. Struck from one ounce of 99.99% pure silver in proof quality, the motive features a depiction of the iconic deep-sea sponge along with his meowing pet snail Gary™. The neighboring dwellings of SpongeBob™ and Thaddeus Tentacle™ can be seen in the background. Also included in the design is the SpongeBob SquarePants™ logo. The reverse features the Jody Clark portrait of King Charles III as well as the weight, fineness, denomination and year of issue.

The animated series SpongeBob SquarePants™ was first broadcast in 1998 and has been very popular with audiences ever since. In addition to SpongeBob™, the protagonists include his best friend Patrick Star™, the pet snail Gary™, the disgruntled octopus Thaddeus Tentacle™, the restaurant owner Mr. Krabs™ and his daughter Perla™, and the antagonist Plankton™. The stories take place almost exclusively in the fictional town of Bikini Bottom™, where SpongeBob SquarePants™ lives in a pineapple. The episodes deal with banal topics, but the series is characterized by the fact that everyday situations are depicted in an exaggerated and often bizarre way.
