The rimless Antique Finish coin is the first issue in the Perth Mint's new “Fates” series and has been struck from two ounces of 99.99% pure silver. The motive depicts the three goddesses of fate, Klotho, Lachésis and Atropos, who originate from Greek mythology and are collectively known as the Moirai. The reverse shows the portrait of King Charles III as well as details of the weight, fineness, denomination and year of issue.
The Moirai determine and accompany the fate of every human being from birth to death. In Greek mythology, they are considered to be very powerful and inevitable - even Zeus, the father of the gods, is subordinate to them and cannot change the fate determined by the Moirai. Each of the Moirai has their own specific task to fulfill - Klotho is considered “the spinner”, who spins the thread of life with a spindle and symbolizes the beginning of life. Lachésis is known as “the allotter” and in this function is responsible for measuring the thread of life. She defines the length of life. Atropos, the inevitable, is the goddess of fate who determines the manner of death, cuts the thread and thus ends existence. The central symbols of the Moirai, thread and scissors, are universal metaphors for human existence today. Limited to just 2,000 pieces worldwide, The Fates - The Moirai Antique Finish silver coin is delivered in the original box including a numbered certificate of authenticity from the Perth Mint.
