Mongolia is famous for its rich fossil record including dramatic species such as Velociraptor, known from the Jurassic Park movies. The Evolution of Life coin series pays tribute to past eras by portraying extinct prehistoric creatures. The Pterosauria coin features the native Noripterus parvus, that roamed Mongolian skies 140 million years ago with a wingspan of over four meters. Their fossils were first described from Central Mongolia in 1982. Struck in one ounce of 99,9% silver, it represents the most detailed coin in the series to date. Through the smartminting© relief, the gilded Pterosaur looks like a real fossil. Even remnants of the delicate wing membranes are hinted at in the rock matrix. The gilded Pterosauria silver coin in antik finish comes with cerificate in a illustrated wooden case.

smartminting© is a revolutionary technology in the field of modern numismatics. It allows unprecedented dimensions of high reliefs and sets new standards in the commemorative coin industry.

  • considerably larger diameter on standard weight coins while maintaining relief height
  • standard relief height on coins with greatly reduced weight
  • extraordinarily high relief on coins with slightly increased weight
