This coin is the third in an exciting series of space themed coins celebrating the Moon Landing in 1969. Following on from the Solar System & Mission to Mars coins, this special coin depicts the shuttle’s approach to the moon. Inside the capsule you will find a genuine piece of space flown shuttle insulation. This material was taken from the payload bay area of orbiter Discovery and was flown on mission STS - 85. While in space it helped protect the orbiter's components from extreme heat and cold temperatures during spaceflight conditions. The stars are intentionally left untreated or colored so that the silver of the coin may shine through, giving genuine reflective star qualities to the coin. The rare Space Shuttle locket silver coin comes including a certificate in a coin case.
