The second release in the Prehistoric Life Series from the Congo is dedicated to the Plesiosaur. The coin struck from 0.5 gram of 99.99% pure gold depicts a plesiosaur in the sea. The inscriptions "PREHISTORIC LIFE", "PLESIOSAURUS", "201 - 191 MIO YEARS BC" and the year of issue 2020 are also shown. The reverse features the coat of arms of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Fossil remains of the Plesiosaurus were first discovered in the early 19th century by the fossil collector and paleontologist Mary Anning near the British Lyme Regis. Plesiosaurs populated the earth until the final phase of the Cretaceous and could reach a body length of up to 15 meters. The limited gold proof coin is delivered in a protective capsule.
