» LUNAR - SIGNS OF THE ZODIAC « - The Year of the Dragon - 2024
The 12 animals are particularly important to the history of the Chinese lunar calendar. Each animal is said to have certain characteristics which influence those under its dominion. The year of birth is crucial in assigning a corresponding zodiac sign, which tells how one is perceived by others or how one portrays oneself. According to Chinese mythology, there was a great race, the Great Lunar Race, which decided which animals were included in the zodiac and in which order. To complete the race and become one of the 12 animals in the calendar, the animals had to cross a river. The twelve animals that participated in the race and also reached the finish line are rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog and pig.
Following the worldwide success of the first and second Zodiac Series, Australia's Perth Mint continues the popular series with the launch of the Australian Lunar Series III in 2020. Each year, the motive features a different animal from the Chinese lunar calendar. The animals are seen in an environment characteristic of them. The Chinese character for the respective animal is also included in the design.
The Lunar coins in gold, silver and platinum are in great demand among collectors and investors worldwide !
