After the Chinese Zodiac, the year 2020 is the "Year of the Rat". According to legend, one day Buddha called all the animals to him, but only twelve answered his call. A rat appeared first, followed by a buffalo, tiger, hare, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, cock, dog, and finally a pig. This partially gilded coin is dedicated to the first Chinese zodiac sign, to the rat. The coin was minted from 999 silver in proof quality. The motive shows a rat, who sits protectively over a basket full of cherries. At the top is the inscription "YEAR OF THE RAT" and the character "鼠" - which means rat. The Chinese sign and the rat in the foreground of the coin are gilded. The value side shows the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the inscriptions: "NIUE", "2020", "8 DOLLARS" and "5OZ 999 SILVER". The numbered coin is delivered in an elegant case along with a certificate of authenticity. The edition is strictly limited to only 500 coins worldwide.
