The euro coin from Malta was issued to celebrate the launch of the new series "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power™", which is being broadcast exclusively on Prime Video from the 2nd of September 2022. The series is the prequel to J. R. R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings™" and "The Hobbit™" and is set in the Second Age of the fictional world of Middle Earth.

The uncirculated Euro coin is dedicated to the most successful franchise of all time - "The Lord of the Rings™". The motive depicts the White Tree of Gondor, a descendant of the tree Nimloth of Númenor. Surrounding the symbol of luck are the two famous lines of the Ring Poem in the Black Speech. Translated, the inscription means "One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them". The reverse shows the logo of the Central Bank of Malta, the mint mark and the year of issue. The limited Lord of the Rings Euro coin is delivered in an illustrated blistercard, featuring all the important characters of the world-famous fantasy story. The obverse depicts the hobbits Frodo Baggins™ and Samwise Gamgee™, as well as Gollum™, Sauron™, Aragorn™ and Gandalf™. The reverse shows the Elven Prince Legolas™ portrayed by Orlando Bloom.
