The sixth issue of the Australia at Night Series is dedicated to the Leadbeater's Possum. The coin was struck from one ounce of 99.99% pure gold. The motive has a precious platinum plating and features a leadbeater's possum sitting on a branch in the foreground and two leadbeater's possums in front of the full moon in the background. The design also includes the inscription "AUSTRALIA AT NIGHT - LEADBEATER'S POSSUM". The reverse depicts a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II and the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II," "NIUE 2022," "100 DOLLARS" and "1OZ 9999 GOLD".
The leadbeater's possum is a cute little marsupial, often referred to as the "forest fairy". It is characterized by its quick movements and exceptionally great agility. The leadbeater's possum is found exclusively in Victoria and is the fauna emblem of the Australian state. The endangered species lives primarily in the ash forests and subalpine woodlands of the central highlands. There, the leadbeater's possums live and sleep together in small colonies of up to 12 animals in tree hollows. The mintage is limited to only 150 pieces worldwide. The Australia at Night - Leadbeater's Possum gold proof coin with Platinum Plating is delivered in the original wooden box including a numbered certificate of authenticity.
