The Great Southern Land Opal Silver Coin is dedicated to the South Australian continent, which is the smallest continent in the world and is home for a variety of climates, landscapes and animals. Struck by the Perth Mint from one ounce of 99.99% pure silver in proof quality, it incorporates an inner panel design of the great southern continent detailed in a pure Australian opal. The outer ring of the coin features representations of iconic Australian animals - kangaroo, emu, koala, echidna, wombat, bilby, Tasmanian devil, frilled-neck lizard, goanna and the eastern brown snake. The traditional mintmark "P" of the Perth Mint is also included in the design. The reverse depicts the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as well as the denomination. The limited "Great Southern Land" silver proof coin with genuine Australian opal is delivered in the original box including a numbered certificate of authenticity from the Perth Mint.
